Description
Sony's newest Double Layer DVD recorder brings a new level of performance to DVD burning. Single layer DVD+R discs can now be burned at up to 16X speed, burning an entire disc in about 5 minutes. Double Layer DVD+R DL discs can also be burned, giving you up to 4 hours of MPEG-2 video or up to 8.5GB of data storage space on a single disc. Being part of the Dual RW family, the DRU-710A burns both standard 4.7GB DVD+R and +RW discs and CD-R/RW discs.

Strengths: It is Fast and installation is easy. Easy to change black faceplate.

It comes with Nero 6 which is very easy to use. It Doesn't like really cheap DVDs. I had trouble with 4X on cheap 4X DVDs. So Don't buy cheap DVDs.....
Strengths: Fast, installs easily, good documentation, comes with Nero 6, Sony brand name, does dual layer at 2.4X, changable black faceplate if you want to use it (I did - easy to install)

Good DVD Writer , Its size is smaller than other writers , Also include a black panle for black cases like Shuttle SN85G4 , Its DVD Reading is very good , My last DVD Writer ( Plextor PX504A ) couldn't read the DVDs thats writed with DVD Writers ...... Easy installation and setup. First time DVD user...very easy to burn DVD's. Dual Layer option makes burning twice as much data appealing. Also able to burn CD at great speed.

I have been purchasing Sony DVD burners for the past three years and as always it the best product on the market. This New DRU710a like always is another great improvement for Sony. The Sony drive is quite and error free so far.

While I have only had this drive for a short time it is far superior than all other Sony drives I have used to date. Price/quality/speed have all improved over the last 3 years. A solid drive for about $99.

I will recommend you to buy it. It comes with nice software. With my previous CD writer that was Samsung I was experiencing CD burning (I mean in a bad sense) For burning one CD I had to destroy two CDs but with this new Sony product I have not had so far such a bad experience. I also could back up my files on DVD successfully.

Weakness: Took 3 weeks, the purchase of tons of CD/DVDs, postings on Internet, and phone calls to resolve problems
We purchased this drive to backup with Restrospect. Had quite a time getting it working right. A very nice lady at Sony finally helped us on the phone yesterday, and it is all working well. Strengths: Easy to install Quiet Reliable Fast Accurate Writing to DVD, no coasters
This latest Sony DVD dual writer is fast, accurate and easy to install. It comes bundled with the Nero software which is easy to use. Dual media is still hard to come buy at a reasonable price so I have not tested dual layer writing.

Strengths: Burns up to 8.5 GB.
Weakness: Not Sony's problem, but Dual-layer DVDs cost $10 a piece right now.
This drive is on the bleeding edge of consumer technology. You can use it to burn CDs, DVDs, or dual layer DVDs, but dual layer DVDs are $10 on eBay. I'm sure as more people use them, the price will go down. Don't buy cheap DVDs to record to because they won't work well in DVD players or even in your Sony drive.
