Strengths: Yamaha name suggests quality electronics. $30 Factory rebate offered at time of purchase.
Weakness: None known.
This is the second CD burner I've purchased. My first was a no-name brand from the local electronics store. That unit often produced buffer underrun errors and could not be set to write faster than 4X, even though it was rated for 8X. After spending way too much time trying to burn a music CD, I finally decided to pay a bit extra for a quality burner, and decided on the Yamaha CRW3200EZ. I'm very...
Strengths: S/W bundle, performance, reputation
Weakness: Price, Nero 5.5 packaged version does not fully support XP although the update is on the Nero site
I compared the TDK, Plexwriter, Philips, and Yamaha as these were often sited as the best drives on the market. I purchased the Yamaha for its above listed strengths. This drive is as fast as advertised and is bundled with Nero 5.5. Word to the wise: If using XP download Nero's latest update otherwise while attempting a burn your system may stop and require a full reboot. Once Nero 5.5 is updated...
Strengths: See below
Weakness: See below
This is the first CD RW recorder that I have owned, so maybe my experience is not what it should be. I used some of the reviews that I read here in making my decision on this product and I will have to say that I am less than satisfied with the Nero 5.5 software. I simply could not get the Nero software to work on my Dell 4100 system. Emails to Nero went unanswered. I tried to download later...
Strengths: Very fast, largest data buffer size, very reliable and very good looking. Come with nice software bundle.
Weakness: Pricey compare to competitors. doesn't have 32X burner yet while TDK already come out with one when I'm writing this.
I like this drive more than TDK, Plextor, Sony or Acer that I used before. It worked with with any softwares from Nero, Easy CD Creator, Primo CD to Media Jukebox, Musicmatch and Windows Media player. My TDKs (both 24X and 32X) doesn't work with all the software, especially the 32X is not support by ECDC yet. Even though Yamaha was 5 seconds slower than plextor when copied cd to cd (on-the-fly)...
Strengths: Easy set-up, high performance, quiet operation.
Weakness: Does not last, only one year warranty
Set-up is straight forward. Speeds seem to be as advertised. Operation is quiet. Price with rebate was quite good. Don't confuse with CRW2200EZ, which sells for nearly the same price, but not quite the same performance.
Strengths: Easy install, you get the best CD burning software out there -- Nero, this baby smokes!!!
Weakness: Cannot see any
I cannot say enough about this CDRW. It is simply wonderful. Amazing speed, truly amazing. Top notch software bundle to go with it. I would recommend anyone interested in a CDRW go and get this one.

Yamaha LightSpeed CD-RW
Strengths: Best quality CD copies of any burner, Audio Master Quality recording, 8 MB buffer, best version of Nero Burning Rom
Weakness: None
I did very extensive research for a month before buying this burner (got burned by Compaq's horrendous "service & support") & I would buy the same burner today, regardless of recent speed increases. Quality is more important than speed or price; this burner even tests each blank CD for quality and reduces the maximum speed if it determines the quality can't be guaranteed at max speed (hint: TDK...
