Strengths: Great Speed, + and - DL support, great performance in professional reviews and in my Athlon-64 based computer.
Weakness: No DVD-ROM writing, ships with no literature, no software.
This was an upgrade from my 4x Lite-on DVD writer, which had issues with some media. Installed with no issues, immediately got the latest bios and updated it, then started burning with great results. My 8x windata media burned at 12x with no issues. I've seen newer Pioneer drives are shipping, but the specs are similar to this unit. The lack of software was not a problem in my case. I have gotten this drive to work only with Memorex 16X +R and Nexxtech 8x -R. Occasionally I can get it to work with Memorex 16X -R. But have never got a successful burn with TDK 16X -R or Verbatim 16X-R. Just had this drive little under a year but going to replace.
