DVD-RAM/±R/±RW - EIDE/ATAPI - Internal - MPN: DVR108 See Product Details
Description
The DVR-108 is capable of writing at speeds up to 16x maximum on DVD-R and +R discs that are designed for this recording speed, as well as specified 8x media. With 16x media not yet available, Pioneer's DVR-108 is allowing customers to write on currently available 8x media at faster speeds by capitalizing on Pioneer's over specification technology, a writing strategy designed to allow the DVR-108 to record at higher speeds with certain media. The double-layer technology extends data storage capacity on DVD recordable discs from 4.7 gigabytes to 8.5 gigabytes. The new drive is also dual format, which support DVD-R and DVD-RW disc formats as well as the +R and +RW formats to eliminate consumer confusion.

Strengths: Supports many writing formats Regular firmware updates Quiet operation Very high compatablity with media Duel Layer Great Value
Weakness: Nothing
I decided to purchase the pioneer dvr108 oem version mainly because I heard and read of it's high compatablity in burning and that was the most important factor in my purchase. I ordered some ritek g04/g05 for there well known good price and high compatablity. I used the 1.14 firmware the software that I used was nero burning rom 6 that came with my old cdrw drive. Using ritek brand g04 I was...
Strengths: Was very inexpensive. Burns to every type of Media except DVD-RAM.
Weakness: OEM Version does not come with Software or cables or sample media. Retail comes with all the above but costs alot more.
This burner is very good. this is my second burner and I can tell you that this is the best one I have ever used. I wasn't too sure about this drive and was swinging more towards the Plextor -712a but found out that it didn't burn to DL dvds. Even though the pioneer drive isn't the fastest in its class, It makes it up in the quality of the burn and it burns to many differnt types of media...
Strengths: Fast, dual-layer, great price.
This is the latest-generation DVD recorder from Pioneer. Installation was a breeze and I was able to write my first DVD in minutes. I had no problems writing a movie on a no-brand DVD-R media. While 12x and dual-layer media is still quite expensive, at the price of this drive you can't go wrong. It will serve you well for years to come.
Strengths: Burn speed, double layer
Weakness: CD read/write
This is my first optical drive from pioneer and bought it by company's name value. Strangely mine from newegg has the front color little bit darker than usual beige and its shape is also different found in pioneer website even for the same oem drives. So if good looking is also one of concerns retail box version is an alternative although more expensive. No coasters so far and it is little bit...
Strengths: Unbelievably fast and efficient
Weakness: n/a
Price is excellent for a product of this calibar. I had no problems downloading movies. A friend has the same product and raves about it constantly.
Strengths: Fast. Dual Layer. Reliable.
Weakness: I have not experienced it so far.
Bottom line ... this dvd burner is one of the top burner in reliability out there. For the price, it is a great deal. The burner does not make that much noise. In general, it is well designed and compatibility issues are almost nonexistent.
Strengths: Burn speed, double layer and DVD-/+R at 16 speed
Weakness: n/a
Simply, the best on the market so far. Price is excellent for this kind of product. I have no problems to backup my movies or to backup my data hard drive. I recommended it to my friends.
Strengths: This product is a snap to set up and works very well. Cutting edge is Pioneer's theme. Great.
Weakness: None.
It takes longer to take the cover off my computer that it is to install it into my compter. It is a snap. You can be up and running in 10 minutes.
Strengths: Easily installed. Supported by Mac OS 10.x. Does Everything it is advertised to do.
Weakness: Box does not list compatability with Mac.
Even though Specs as listed on box or on-line do not mention compatability with Mac OS 10.x, unit functions perfectly in that environment. Dual layered media is not yet available to test dual layer recording.
Pioneer once again sets teh standard for DVD burning with the DVR-A08. Now we can write to DVD+R DL, yes dual layer up to 8.5 gb of data or video on one disc. Also supporting the higher 16x speeds for DVD+R and DVD-R, this drive does everything you need and at the highest speeds.

Strengths: Fast speed, almost no burning errors
Weakness: Stops working after a year and a half
I remember buying this burner through some website back in November of 2004. It was a fast burner, for a decent price. It had the dual-layer capability, which in the end didn't matter to me, cause most places I shopped didn't carry dual-layer discs, and the places online that did was selling them for prices that were way too steep (up to 3-5 times the price per disc for a DVD+R). It's ran pretty...
