This is a very nice dvd burner. Though it's only 12x, its low price worths it. You can't burn a 4x dvd with 12x speed anyway. I burned plenty The process and final outcomes are good. It would be nice if it has bit setting function. But it doesn't really matter to have it or not for nowdays dvdplayers. Overall this is very good drive. They have nice customer service as well.

This drive is excellent for its price. It has a lot of features - dual format, high density burn for cd-r discs, double layer format. It also comes with nero oem suite and sonic dvd to get you started, although there are better programs than sonic.12x writing speed burns a dvd in minutes. This dvd writter performs well. I burned about 20 dvds and no problem so far. However, I have not tried the dual-layer burning capability yet, so no comment on this. Very good price. Recommended. B+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I was most interested in HD- burning and with the aid of the easy to use NERO software, it worked on the first try! With the high-density dvd wrtiting to boot- this is a very unique and capable piece of hardware. I OPTORITE updates firmware frequently, they grow in reputation and continue to improve on their quality. I'd like to try DL burning, but it is still too expensive
Strengths: It burns HD, it burns on +or- media, it comes with 2 color face plates, and it is fast.
Weakness: Has frequent laser and other failures which creates coaters. Burned about 100dvd-r got about 15 coasters.
Not a bad drive for the price just not as reliable as the Optorite DD0405 DVD±RW Writer and the Optorite DD0203 DVD±RW Writer which i owned. Reading a disk works great and as i said before most burns are succesfull but lots of odd errors from the drive that i have never seen with my other drives.

Weakness: Compability problem with some CD readers
This drive is cheap fast and quiet. Burns DVD without any problem. But on the CD it burned it gave some read error on some other CD readers. Maybe I got a faulty drive.

I just got it today and burned several CDs and DVD. Works fine with with everything DVD-Cloner, DVDXCOPY, NERO Ultra Edition and Alcohol 120%. Write 8X with 4X Ridate media and the media still works great. PS. I have not tried HD-Burn yet. Maybe I will try it later.
Strengths: highly compatible w/ all media types i've thrown at it, burned very quickly so far w/ no coasters
Weakness: installation was straight forward, but, had a hard time getting the black bezel to stay on securely on the front of the drive, plastic hooks were not made very accurately to fit properly.

The DVD writer is good. The Sonic MyDVD software that is bundled with did not work well. Lost 5 free DVD's I got with the order from Newegg due to incorrect encoding by SonicMyDVD.
